Gone Rummagin'

Tomorrow is Friday and many of you get your paycheck!

It's also National Thrift Shop Day which is observed annually on August 17th.

Thrift Shop Day is dedicated to thrift shops, the resale shops that more often than not are connected to a charity organization.

While some resale shops are for-profit businesses such as buy-outright or consignment stores, most thrift shops have received their goods as donations, and donate to or are a charity organization.

. Popular items found at thrift shops include clothing, DVD's, CD's, books, and furniture.

People shop at thrift shops for various reasons, whether it be for the low prices, support of charity, or for environmental and ethical reasons such as recycling and protesting sweatshop work.

Every now and then I go through our clothes and seasonal decorator items and haul them into Goodwill.

JD accuses me saying "for every box that goes Into Goodwill TWO come home with me."

I have managed to find several original artworks (not the cheap pixilated Walmart art) in Goodwill and salvation Army Stores. worth way more than the $3.99 I paid for them.

I do all my shopping at thrift shops. Can't afford the prices at WalMart, plus I feel patriotic when I am boycotting US owned companies.

I purchase all my work shirts at goodwill. Can't see paying $20 at some place for something that within 2 hours of use will be covered in cow shit and or grease.

I watch for flannel shits for JD to work in the winter. New flannel work shirts range from $85 -$125 new... That I/we refuse to pay.

It's "wise money" that makes it work.

I like seasonal decorations setting around to add to the old dump... I turns into a swap meet where I drop off my used stuff for what's coming up next.

There are some self-serving charities that I try to avoid but many provide jobs, serves and support community efforts on numerous civic projects.

Being a retiree I shop at thrift stores on occasion. My favorite cocktail dress which is a LBD (lil' black dress) is one that I usually wear when Husband takes me out for an evening, I bought at a thrift shop. I fell in luv with it and took it home hoping it would fit and it did! I wear it with my favorite pair of heels and of course underneath I'm wearing garters and hose, panties and bra. I feel so womanly wearing it.
