I have no ties to the north or South but JD's family came in 1760 while still the Colonies one side to the North though Pennsylvania to Iowa. Th other through Louisiana and Texas... His house was divided and is still a subject not approached under certain conditions. JD will go out and run up the Stars and Bars just to piss off his mom.

The Confederacy was a blatant attempt to destroy the Union. Had it been successful in breaking away it would have been harmful to both sides. The CSA had little chance to win the Civil War; the more industrialized North would prevail over time. The war cost over 600,000 lives and resulted in the destruction of the southern infrastructure. When I see the Stars and Bars I have to wonder what there was to celebrate. In addition to having their economy shattered they lost 30% of their young men. That would be something I'd rather forget.

Thanks a lot Brooke for that amazing lesson on the history of Fort Sumter. Great job on this post!

Thoughts and prayers go out to those folks in Missouri who were affected by the tornadoes.
